The simplest answer would be "Profit." The U.S. Congress said that "the Native Americans stand as guardians to the treasure vaults of this nation." They were referring to the lands held by the Native Americans, to the west of the land that the U.S. owned.

Western expansion was for the sole purpose of profit, personal as well as the profit of the U.S. Natural Resources of gold, silver, agriculture and more-so to claim these lands for the U.S. before anyone else could claim them (Spanish / Mexico). Everyone, except the Native Americans, stood to profit from claiming these lands; by any means possible.

People moved to the west because in the east there was no room for farming, economic depression, and there was no space for farming and agriculture.

People also moved west because of the gold rush, in search of religious freedom, privacy, cotton in Texas, and also to trap furs.

Also, Americans thought of it as free land to settle into.

America soon ran out of land because of our population rate but due to the purchase of Louisiana territory from France the american government decided to allow American settlers to move west. That allowed the settlers to gain new opportunity and some went west just to mine gold later on

  • They had a few reasons, one was because they needed room to expand and another is because they needed more farm land.
  • because there was no corn in the east and there was a lot of corn in the west
  • and because many people killed there so many didn't want to stay!
  • Americans moved West simply because there was no more room in the East anymore and people were farmers needed land so they moved out West and eventually Americans wanted a Manifest Destiny (Go from coast to coast) as well.
  • they wanted to expand the U.S (make it bigger)
  • They would wear boots and vests instead of old drapes.

They were curious of the things they would find ahead, way west.
