He was much/is much more then that. He began "making it" by playing the Fillmore in San Francisco in the mid 60s. His band also played for free in the Mission District of SF on weekends and he drew a huge following from not only the Latins but all of the San Francisco people in those daze. His playing is super fast and super good! Go listen to his early albums and see why he is still one of the best guitar players in the world.
