∙ 14y agoShe was inspired from a very early age to sing. Principally by her maternal Grandmother Violet. Her recording of Somewhere over The Rainbow was played at Violet's funeral. She sang in front of a Pop Idol audience when she was three, she wasn't old enough but the organizers let her sing as a guest after she cried because they wouldn't let her sing. She saw that her singing made people happy.
She is credited with pulling her mother out of depression after Violet's death with singing around the house and her happy nature. Her wish to make people happy with her singing propelled her to audition when she saw Simon Cowell advertising for the show. It was a natural progression for Connie and her idea alone. ∙ 14y agoI don't think Connie worries any now about finishing as runner up to Paul Potts. She has gone on to be very successful in her own budding career as a singer. Connie won her semifinal as a result of the call in vote but lost the final for the same reason. Connie had a very compelling back story but Paul Potts did also. Paul Potts probably would have never gotten another chance. The vote was very close. It is said that had Connie sang something besides Over The Rainbow she would have won. She had plans to sing something else but the producers wanted her to sing Over The Rainbow. The British public, though very supportive in opinion and love for Connie very likely with held votes because of Connie's age. Both Paul Potts and Connie have been very successful artists.
