The English settled in North America for a variety of reasons. Some wanted adventure in the New World. The pilgrims came to America for religious freedom.
Many came to the "New World" for religious freedom. The powers in the "Old World" were forcing their beliefs upon the people.
Also, some people went to the American colonies in search of better opportunities; some wanted adventure and some wanted to make a fresh start after disgracing themselves in England.
So basically, settlers came to America because they wanted to start a new life.
To get Gold, for Religous Reasons,the King wanted new land, and England was too crowded.
