Matthew's Gospel tells of God speaking to Joseph in a dream, but Burton L. Mack (Who Wrote the New Testament) says Matthew's nativity story is seen by scholars as an incredible, implausible, far-fetched fiction that some believe to signal Matthew's naivete with regard to legendary material. In his own epistles, Paul never once attributed a miracle to himself, but Acts of the Apostles, written half a century after his death, finds Jesus speaking to Paul and Paul working miracles.
Don't worry that God does not speak to anyone today. He never did.
A:The implication here is that Biblical characters listened to and acted on their own ego (however insane or psychopathic those actions might have been), and not the voice of God. The excuse of "God told me to" becomes invalid, and instead insanity can be the only verdict.Answer:
"In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to US by His Son..." (Heb.1:1-2 NIV).
Those in the past didn't have The Bible... they wrote it. Today, the Bible does the speaking. The timeless, unchanging Word God spoke to those who wrote it down.
Jesus Christ, the "Light of the World," illuminates the inspired recorded Words of the Bible and brings an understanding of them to the hearts and minds of those today whom God is calling.
"...'This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.' Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures." (Luke 24:44-45 NIV)
God spoke to His prophets in the past... but His Son speaks to more, and a greater diversity of people now than ever before, through His Holy Spirit, which reveals the Truth of the Bible, hidden there from the hearts and minds of the 'wicked'.
"...the Words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand." (Dan.12:9-10 NIV)
God has never stopped talking to His elect.
Yes, and He speaks today to anyone willing to act on his revealed truth in the bible.
