Why did Hitler go to jail?

[Edit]

Reasons Hitler Went to Jail

In a nutshell, it was because of a failed attempt to overthrow the Bavarian government in Munich in 1923. (The Beer Hall Putsch)

In 1923 Hitler tried to take over the government of Bavaria by force as the first step towards seizing control of Germany as a whole. The attempt failed and he was put on trial. Friends fixed things so that the presiding judge was a secret member of the Nazi party. He was in the dock alongside Field Marshal Ludendorff. He was allowed to speechify like crazy from the dock and was only given 5 years and no recommendation was made to send him back to Austria. He only served 9 months, while in prison he wrote his famous book 'Mein Kampf'.
