Because children could be manipulated easily. Installing children with Nazi ideas and way of life was easier to do than for adults. Simply, they also were Germanys future. They would be the ones fighting for Hitler's wish of 'lebensraum' (living space) so great importance was placed upon children. Propaganda was a major tool in the instalation of Nazism in children and to a lesser extent adults. The Hitler youth was used as a tool of preparing children for war as well as the installation of Nazism. Nazi Germany would only survive in the long run with the support of the fundamentally 'brainwashed children'

Hitler believed that if you got a child young (and impressionable) enough, there was no limit to how much you could indoctrinate him. And indeed, some of Hitler's youth troops were the most fanatical about hanging on to the bitter end, even after the cease-fire.

Mostly because he believed that if you begin the indoctrination of a child young enough, you can teach them anything, and extract the most blindly allegiant loyalty from them.
