It was a passion of his and his life revolved around classical music.
His father taught him to play violin and harpsichord.[4] His uncles were all professional musicians, whose posts ranged from church organists and court chamber musicians to composers. One uncle, Johann Christoph Bach (1645-93), was especially famous and introduced him to the art of organ playing. Bach was proud of his family's musical achievements, and around 1735 he drafted a genealogy, "Origin of the musical Bach family"
He came from a musician family composing for almost 2 hundred years. He came out to be the best musician of that family and noone came as a musician after him. He gathered the best of the family and his compositions are well remembered and played to date.
Characteristics of musical idiom aside, musicologists commonly accept that the Baroque period in music is that which lies between the end of the Renaissance (about 1600) and the beginning of the classical (some sources say 1750, more or less coincident with Bach's death, others say 1760). Given that, all of Bach's works fall well within the chronological Baroque era.
