Mark Twain titled his book 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' to emphasize the exciting and unpredictable nature of the protagonist's experiences and to reflect the theme of youthful exploration and self-discovery. This title also helps to establish the adventurous spirit that drives the narrative of the book.

Tom Sawyer is the main character. Aside: There is also some humour in the title. "Adventures" were generally reserved for "important people" a role which a young orphaned boy growing up along the Missouri could hardly lay claim to.

Mark Twain chose Tom Sawyer to be mischievous simply to represent a typical young boy. Many young boys like to make trouble, and often do mischievous things with their friends, and Tom Sawyer was his way of displaying that.
