If I remember correctly, the publisher cancelled the series so she never got to finish it.

As to answer this question, I can honestly think of no plausible reason as to why Stanton never had a ninth book. Nor, for that matter, can I explain the point of the eight book in the slightest. An author should never start a series, and then not finish it.
