Montag killed Beatty because he was going to be arrested for having books, because Montag was through with Beatty pushing him around all of the time and forcing him to burn down his own house, before Beatty was killed, he was making fun of Montag and trying to get Montag anry at Beatty (almost as if Beatty wanted to be killed), and because Beatty was going to have Faber killed. All of this enraged Guy Montag, and all of the emotion he was feeling finally burst through as he burnt Beatty, killing him.
Beatty talked to Montag to warn him about the dangers of questioning the status quo and reading books. Beatty wanted to intimidate Montag into conforming to society's rules and to prevent him from continuing his rebellious behavior.

Montag is visited by his teenage neighbor, Clarisse McClellan, who questions his beliefs and introduces him to new ideas that challenge society's norms. Additionally, he is visited by Captain Beatty, his fire chief, who confronts him about his growing curiosity and suggests he should conform to the rules of their society.
Captain Beatty tells Montag that firefighters were not originally created for burning books, but were in fact established to prevent fights and violence among individuals. This is a lie to deceive Montag about the true purpose of book burning by the government to control ideas and knowledge.
Montag realized that Beatty wanted to die and provoked Montag to kill him. He knew this when Beatty goaded him and knew all the details about the hidden earpiece that Faber had given Montag.
Captain Beatty tells Montag to burn his own house down as punishment for hoarding books and defying the law. Beatty explains that Montag must prove his loyalty to the fire department by destroying the books himself.
When Beatty says "the sheep returns to the fold" in Fahrenheit 451, he is alluding to the idea that people are easily swayed by conformity and are willing to return to the safety of the status quo, even if it means sacrificing their individuality and critical thinking skills. Beatty is highlighting how society has prioritized comfort and compliance over intellectual freedom and independent thought.
