But in medieval Europe only Christian countries used to be recognized and Lithuania was "baptized" in 1385, then the country create the personal union with Poland and became Europe's greatest country in 1569 (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth), the union officially ended in 1918 when Lithuania had declared it's independence. Then after WWII Lithuania was forced to conjoin the Soviet Union and regain the independence just in 1990.
