Why did Virginia North Carolina Tennessee and Arkansas joined the Confederacy?
Virginia seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy on April 17, 1861. Prior to this, the Confederacy numbered seven states. Virginia became the eighth state to lea…ve the Union. Part of this was due to President Lincoln's call for 75,000 volunteers to end the Southern rebellion.
North Carolina joined the union on November 21, 1789. North Carolina was the 12th state to enter the union, preceded by the state of New York.

The Democratic party split into Northern and Southern groups over disagreements over slavery before Abraham Lincoln was elected. When the first Southern Democratic Convent…ion was held, it was held in Virginia because Virginia was one of the states most opposed to abolishing slavery.
