Don Felder was fired by the band in 2001 because he was no longer a positive contribution to the band. He filed a lawsuit which was settled for an undisclosed amount.

Actually the truth be known and told, Don was let go because he questioned the validity of Frey and Henley's dominance. They were never truthful in the amounts of money coming in and where they were going. Don did what any honest person would do and that is question his fellow mates. They apparently did not like that and went forth with treating him and others without heart, gratitude or fairness. Henley and Frey in my estimation were jealous of Felder for a few reasons, his raw artistic talent being the most obvious. All band members are very fortunate to have done what they loved to do and get paid insane amounts of money to do it. Try to afford a ticket to the Eagles today, one has to sell their first born child to do so! Felder simply wanted what he signed on for, rich or poor, he cannot be thought ill of for this. In case you forgot how incredible he was/is, YouTube, "Turn to Stone", 9 minutes and 14 seconds of guitar mastery awaits us all.

Don complained too much and too loudly about Henley and Frey getting a much bigger share of the money the Eagles made after the "Hell Freezes Over" reunion. Tim and Joe didn't seem to mind the split, so Don was the odd man out.
