Why did glenn danzig choose the name danzig?

Glenn Danzig is not a white supremacist, neo-nazi, or a racist. He reveled in an interview that people should be proud of their ethnic background and he also said "What race am I? I'm a mutt, I'm a mix of a bunch of different stuff and so is everybody else. There is no "original" race anymore. As far as me being an Aryan or a racist, anyone who knows me knows that's bull****." Let that be proof, he is not a racist.

The name Danzig didn't come from the City in Poland, and is NOT a reference to Hitler. Actually, Glenn Danzig is a big fan of the B-Horror movie "The Giant Gila Monster" and originally took the name from that title, "Tansig" but changed the S to a Z and the D to a T because he thought it sounded better and looked better in print. There is also another story he gave in an interview or two that it's a family name on his mother's side. Danzig happens to be a Jewish name.
