To establish power upon Uganda, Amin gathers up a military coup while

the current president Obote is out of the country. While away they accused obote on the radio of his regime corruption, economic mismanagement, and suppressing democracy, and failing to maintain Law and Order. Then declared himself the new president of Uganda. He then made promises of which he said he would eliminate Obote's secret police. Also he said he would free the political prisoners.

Why was Idi Amin a good leader?

Amin was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of his countrymen and women in his effort to snuff out any opposition to his authority; therefore not passing him in this area. He declared himself president and began a reign seen as one of the bloodiest in African history -- earning Amin the nickname "Butcher of Uganda." He should not have violated the citizens of Uganda's human rights if he wanted to succeed Amin plunged his East African nation into economic chaos by expelling tens of thousands of Asians, in 1972, who had controlled the country's economy. This in turn reflects the mark I have given to him. Ida Amin was almost a caricature of himself with his outlandish behavior. It cost him the respect of world leaders; at home, his tactics produced horrifying results. He started as a charismatic leader so the people would follow him but soon betrayed his homeland. Although he was considered a skilled, and somewhat overeager, soldier, Amin developed a reputation for cruelty - he was almost cashiered on several occasions for excessive brutality during interrogations.
