Why did Karen carpenter get a divorce?

Tom Burris left Karen Carpenter on October 1981 and they never saw her alive again, although they did talk over the phone between 1981 and 1982. Phone conversations which left Karen crying while she was on the phone and for a while after they hung up.

As to the reason he left her, there are a lot of possible reasons, but, no outside person probably knows the real answer. Some possible reasons are: Karen was suffering from anorexia and it was too much for Burris to handle. He was having financial problems and he was not a very good at real estate development. They married in haste and they were not really meant for one another. She had a very busy work schedule and Burris wanted a stay at home wife. Burris Might have married Karen for her money. He was married before and his first marriage ended in divorce. After Karen died, almost all of her money went to her parents and her brother. A lot of Burris goods were repossessed after Karen died and he had to live with his 18 year old son.
