Why did oliver cromwell become such a tyrant?
Answer:
Cromwell lost patience with the Rump Parliament. The army wanted more influence and to be paid. When the Rumps refused to hold an election unless they could be guarenteed their seats, Cromwell marched in with a troop of soldiers and drove the members out. He then locked the doors of Parliament, and put the key in his pocket.
..thats what I put down and read in the textbook. Hope it helped! :)
PS. im doing these lame questions right now for a lame study sheet since I have an exam on this on Friday..
Cromwell became a tyrant because he found he could be and getaway with it!
His opposition was splintered! The Anglicans who were split between a group of gentry and nobility who feared having to give back land and property stolen from the Church during the reformation and Traditionalists , such as Lord Derby who fought for Church and King who sacrificed his life and extensive estate to defend the Anglican Church.
The Parliament was split between those who supported the King in the Oxford Parliament and those who opposed the Monarchy. Between those who were Anglican and Presbyterian. Between the Presbyterian English and those who supported the ,'Scotch Model,.'
There was division also between those who wanted a social revolution between the ,'haves and the have nots,.' People such as Rainsford or Winstanley and the [anarchists,] Diggers, or,' Honest' John Lilleburn with his Levellers.
There must have been something about Cromwell, but I can't see what it is except he had very good luck!
