Pharaoh ordered them to be killed because he thought there was too many Israelites . After his first attempt to try and persuade the Israelites to not have children by giving them a hard and crucial slave life. Pharaoh was scared they would grow into a too large of number and try to fight against the Egyptians.

Ironically, it was not long after they began killing Israelite infants that one was born that actually led a slave exodus.

He wasn't. He was killing the male Hebrew babies, under the theory that this would mean that in a generation or so, there would no longer be any pure Hebrews.
