Mayans still exist today the empire fell due to a number of reasons. Disease wiped out thousands when the Spanish arrived. After that the empire couldn't prosper with so many leaving and dying. The amount of territory it occupied was hard to maintain. Many Mayans were forced into Catholic missions. The structure of Mayan society is drastically different compared to its former glory but many of the traditions and language is still the same. So they didn't all disappear

no one really knows why, but some think that they:

  1. had a crop failure
  2. died from war
  3. died from disease
  4. died from famine
  5. died from drought
  6. Or they rebelled

I don't know if anyone has ever though of it but the Mayans disappeared in around 910 AD , 582 years before Columbus arrived. While that may sound like a long time in ancient times hundreds of years was not as big of jump as it sounds because people did not live as long and technological advancements were fewer and more sparsely apart meaning that the Mayans may have even predicted there downfall when the Europeans would have arrived and just chose to move on.
