Because North Vietnamese and Viet Cong fighters used jungle foliage to their advantage to conceal positions, napalm and Agent Orange was used to clear vegetation.

The napalm was used over suspected and known enemy positions, and Agent Orange was sprayed around U.S. positions to clear approaches around fighting positions of all foliage so perimeter posts could easily see any enemy approaching.
