There were two reason that Egyptians wore amuletes. The first is for just looking good, and rich. The other reason is religon. They believed that if they had a Scarab with them then they would have a safe journey to the under-world.

The egyptians would use amulets for protection. some of the amulets were for protection against sickness and some were for protection against evil gods and monters/spirts in the afterlife. Some were simply worn for good fortune in real, or afterlife.

Men usually wore shentis (kilts). The wealthy wore headdresses and wigs. Jewelry was very common in Egypt, and amulets.

Not all Egyptians wore tunics and flax because they could not afford it; mostly the slaves would not wear this.
It wasn't just women who needed gods for protection, everyone did. The Ancient Egyptains used to carry amulets with them to help keep them safe. There were gods for different things ie a pregnant woman may wear the amulet of the goddess Tawaret who looked after pregnant women.
