Best Answer

The Jacobins split into two groups over the issue of the involvement and role of the lower class in the new society the revolution aimed to create. The Jacobins initially wanted to create a more level society with greater opportunities for all. Jaques Pierre Brissot and several more right leaning Jacobins split to become the Girondists. In general, they wanted to protect upper-class and middle-class superiority and a more conservative direction for the revolution.
