Boston was really the epicenter of the American Revolution. Many patriotic groups operated out of the city, and in response to anti-British activities in the city, extra redcoats were stationed there. With the heavy penalties imposed on Boston, many natives were resentful. Eventually this led to some protesters provoking a patrol of British soldiers who opened fire and killed several Americans.

The Boston Massacre involving 6 deaths took place in Boston because the North Eastern part of the United States wrote the text books and was able to dominate the school book publishing market for years. As a result you do not read about the thousands of deaths in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia.
