It was a major turning point in the American Revolution. Valley Forge
Site in Pennsylvania 32 km/20 mi northwest of Philadelphia, USA, where George Washington's army spent the winter of 1777--78 in great hardship during the American Revolution.
Of the 10,000 men there, 2,500 died of disease and the rest suffered from lack of rations and other supplies; many deserted.
During that winter, Washington introduced Prussian officers who trained the irregulars. The Franco-American alliance 1778 boosted morale and brought new recruits to the army, which emerged from the ordeal to inflict heavy losses on the British.
Although the suffering of troops during the winter of 1777-78 is part of American folklore, other winter ordeals were probably worse; Valley Forge is well known because Washington stressed his army's suffering in order to gain political support. However, the army's discipline and efficiency improved during the winter, which marked a turning point in the war, and the encampment became a symbol of endurance in adversity. It was common in the military actions of that era to camp in the worst of the winter, and remain until the weather began to warm up.
Since it was late fall of 1777, the climate was cold and soldiers were not properly clothed, fed, or sheltered, yet all the soldiers that were left after over 2,000 men had died, were stronger.
It was a rest camp during the Revolutionary War for G-dubs crew to hang although 1 out of 4 people died it happened during December 1775
Men got frostbite, the small pox, and it was FREEZING. Some men's shoes got worn out so they had to wear rags on their feet to keep them somewhat warm.
