In Feburary 1917, Germany sent a coded telegram( the Zimmerman Letter) to Mexico, but it was intercepted by Britain and was decoded and sent to the U.S. Basically, the note stated that if Mexico would ally with Germany in WW1, then GErmany would help it regain all the land it had lost to the U.S. This caused AMericans to be angry as GERmany kept bothering the U.S., like what happened in the Lusitania
