He never liked law, and it can be safely said that if he followed his passions he would have been a teacher or a scientist. But Jefferson wanted a vocation that would challenge his mind, supplement his income and render his useful to society. Had he been a teacher, he probably would not have gotten as far as he did and may not have been voted to Congress in the first place.
