Throughout the South and indeed the entire US, there was deep distrust between the races. In the South, since there was a history of Blacks being slaves, the mentality of the White person was that they were somehow inferior to the dominate race.

While the South lost the Civil War, the people still felt entitled. Reconstruction was a hard and very harsh time for the losers, so there was much resentment and hostility because of the conditions imposed by Congress during that time.

Once the period was over, the white people took their resentment out on the black people, making them feel inferior and demanding rights that should not have happened. Segregated facilities, separate schools, inferior education, voting restrictions, and apartheid measures were common during that time.

The custom of the white people sitting at the front of the bus was only one of the many indignities that black people had to face daily.

And thus persons lIke Martin King Luther Jr. and Obama were born for fighting for EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL HUMANS

What was the mongomery bus boycott?

They decided to do this because Jo Ann Robinson was an African American. African Americans were not allowed to sit anywhere they wanted on the bus. When the bus was full and a white person got on they would make a black person get up and stand up for the ride or get off if it was too crowded. There was a sign on the bus that said colored people and it was placed in the back of the bus. All the seats behind that sign was for black people and there werent many. Everytime a white family got on the bus and there was no more seats the sign would move back until there was no more seats for the black people. All the black people were standing or there was no black people on the bus at all. Until the Rosa Parks came.

How come White people and Black people can sit together on a bus now?

Because one day a lady named Rosa Parks got on a bus and thought it was unfair to sit in the back. She thought Black people and White people SHOULD be able to sit anywhere and by anyone! So she sat in the front with the White people. She did get in trouble but now Black and White people could sit anywhere on a bus and sit next to anyone!

Why didn't Rosa Parks move on the bus?

Back then, when African Americans fought for civil rights, they were not allowed to do what the White people could do. And it was a crime back then for an African American to sit in the front of the bus, it was strictly only for white people. Black people could only sit in the back seats of the bus and when Rosa Parks sat in the front, the police came immediately and arrested her.
