According to Christianity we have not one life, but two. We are given the chance to form our character on earth by commanding a mortal body, and our decisions while restricted to this form will shape who we are forever. Once the body has died the immortal soul is freed.
The reason Christians believe this are manifold. Suffice it to say that they boil down to: Because God told us; and because we are clearly strangers in this world.
Christians believe in life after death because the God we worship has promised us that if we believe in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ we will receive eternal life ( John 3:16, " For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life".
Because they believe that Jesus said he was going to a spiritual world when he died. also, the four gospels allow us to communicate with Abraham, Elijah and moses and they are in heaven (a spiritual world)
The Bible teaches that there is an after-life and a Judgement. The Bible has 2 or 3 times more scriptures related to Hell than it does to Heaven. There is not scripture to support re-incarnation.
As with most things I answer very simply yet very honestly. Christians believe that first that there is a physical death and a spiritual death. The soul or spirit of a person who is saved goes to God and the soul of one who is not goes to hell or what we have come to term hell. After all is said and done on the Great Day of the Lord, all will give an account of themselves to God. Those who are written in the Book of Life, those who are saved with ever be with the Lord and those who aren't saved will be cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. The first death is the death of the body.
The longing for immortality is a universal condition. Since we clearly can not live forever in the flesh, most advanced religions hold out hope for immortality in the spirit. Christians believe that they will go to a place or state of paradise, known as heaven. This is a Christian teaching and therefore Christians should believe in eternal life.
No. Christians believe in life after death because that is what the Bible says not because they are scared. The Bible says man is more than just a body, man also has a soul. The Bible also says that a soul lives on after death and after physical death there is eternal life or eternal death for the soul. Christian beliefs give a purpose for life and a hope of life after death.
Yes, Christians all believe that the soul will live on after the body has died.
Death is the result of sin and the fallen nature of the world. Death is when the body no longer can sustain life so the soul can no longer dwell there. At some timeframe (difference in Christianity) the person's spirit is then judged on whether or not they have received salvation through Jesus. There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised.

Buddhism has no creator God, Christianity does. Buddhism can be considered as not a religion, Christianity definitely is.
