Christians celebrate the Lord supper because it was a command from Jesus.

Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves; for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

Jesus also said, to do it so that you would remember what he has done for those who believe in Him

1 Corinthians 11:24 And when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."

Communion is celebrated in remembrance of Jesus' suffering and death. Jesus instituted this at the Last Supper on the night of His arrest.

Luke 22

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Catholics believe that when we receive the Bread and Wine in Holy Communion we are actually receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. We get this from The Bible at the Last Supper where Jesus says "This is my Body" and "This is my Blood" and then "Do this in remembrance of me." He also tells the crowds that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood if they want eternal life. Many people stopped following Him after this. (John 6:25-69) Jesus could have stopped them from leaving. He could have said "Wait, just a minute - it's only a symbol - this is what it REALLY means," just as He explained the meanings of His other parables, stories, and metaphors. But He didn't. He just turned to His disciples and said "Will you, also, leave?" He meant what He said and He meant it to be taken literally. Not figuratively. I am posting a link that explains what else the Catholic Church teaches on Holy Communion.

Christians celebrate Holy Communion to remember Jesus' death and resurrection. We have been urged by Jesus to continue doing this until he comes again.

According to Mark, at the Last Supper Jesus said, "This is my body, which is being given for you; do this in remembrance of me." In like manner he took also the cup after the supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which shall be shed for you."

These words are the basis for the Eucharist or Holy Communion

To share in the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Catholics believe that it is actually Jesus in the bread and wine, and that you have to receive Him in order to process into Heaven, whereas Protestants believe it is only a ritual for remembrance.

Rituals are a proven method of keeping a message alive. Communion is a ritual meant to allow people to remember the importance of Jesus' death, and his foreknowledge of the reasons.

They can, however communion is a thing for people who are Christians/believers ( and they are people with normal sin) to remember Jesus Christ's death on the cross. There is no purpose/reason for somebody who is not a Christian to take communion.

Is taking Holy Communion in a Church better than doing it at home?

Catholic AnswerCatholics do not "take" Holy Communion, they "receive" it. And Church, usually at Mass, is the place and time to receive Our Blessed Lord in the Holy Eucharist. The only time to receive Holy Communion at home is if you are sick, and a priest, deacon, or duly appointed Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist brings Him to you. Any other way or receiving Our Lord, unless specifically approved by your Bishop is not permitted by the Church. Finally, although it is still Holy Communion, it is infinitely better to receive Holy Communion during Mass both because a) just attending Mass, even without Holy Communion, is a great source of grace, b) and, believe it or not, being a Christian means being part of the Body of Christ. Being Christian is a corporate thing, you need to be worshipping with your fellow Christians, and receiving Holy Communion with them. So you are mistaken, it is not better to receive Holy Communion at home, and it is NEVER better to TAKE Holy Communion.

Can c of e take communion at child's first communion?

Nobody can take Holy Communion in a Catholic Church, you may only receive Holy Communion from the priest, and then only if you have been baptized in the Catholic Church and previously made your first Confession and First Holy Communion.
