the reason the french came here to America is because they wanted to start a new life. they also came to find gold back in the 1600's. they had many helpers here to start a new life together. when they first got here, the king asked one of his men to find him a river from the U.S. to Asia. but the worker could never find that road.

The french came to the Americas in search of a homeland for the french huguenots(protestants). Because they were not free to profess their religion in France. They tried 5 times to colonize in the Americas but failed. (twice in Brazil, Florida, South Carolina, and Canada) Finally, in 1604, Samuel de Champlain founded a colony in Acadia (Nova Scotia) with the financing of Henri IV, the Huguenot king turned Catholic and assassinated in 1610. Many ccfrench huguenots came to the British colonies for the same reason.

France sent expeditions to the New World to build colonies and send New World products back to France. French colonies also were part of France's military policies.
