- Short air cannot be grabbed in hand to hand combat.
- Marines may be required to fight in a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) environment. As such long hair and stubble can interfere with the seal of a gas mask or respirator. The consequences of which may potentially prove fatal.
