Why do animals eat their young?

the truth is most animals don't eat there young almost none do but they might for diffrent reasons.one is a animals mother only has maternal instincts for so long and after that amount of time she to will see the baby as a easy meal.also in times of little food a mother might eat her baby out of starvation.and also it somtimes looks like a animal is eating its babys but it is not.alligators swallow there young and store them in a pouch untill they are in water then the mother lets them out in a area she has claimed.
