Why do candy canes have stripes?

[Edit]

Answer

Just for fun! Besides, who would want just a plain white piece of candy?

Answer

The cane itself represents a shepherd's crook. Some theologians believe the stripes represent the purity and blood of Jesus. Others disagree and believe they are simply "there".
