Most protestants don't hate the pope himself but none don't believe in the authority of the pope and his infallibility. Some in the past have experienced bad popes on the throne and pass on the stereotype that all popes are bad.

Religion is a very personal and passionate matter for most persons. 500 years ago protestants (self titled reformers) broke from the Christian (now Catholic) Church over policy and practice issues. Much of this was initiated by corruption in the church. Some was caused by differences in interpretation of The Bible and philosophy. Some was caused by unwillingness to accept Papal authority in religious and church matters.

To say that Protestants dislike Catholics is a perjorative statement. If indeed they do, one could make that argument that they are lacking in Christian charity. More appropriately, there are fundamental disagreements in some aspects of Christianity.

To give you some technical aspects of what you are looking for, some Protestants disagree with Catholics on the following issues:

- Papal infalliblity on matters of faith and morals

- Catholic Church's wealth (also Largest charity in the world)

- Sale of indulgences (By individual priests, never sanctioned by the Pope, or Church)

- Catholic use of statues. (remember when God commands a statute to be built for the ark of the covenant).

- Catholics reverence for Saints, especially Mary.

- Catholic confession of sin to a priest, who was delegated authority in John 20:23

- Numerous dogmatic issues that vary from sect to sect

Hope this helps to answer your question. There is a field of study called Apologetics which deals in the intrinsic differences between religions. Some colleges offer courses iin Comparative Religion which is similar.

Because they 'protest' at what the Catholics believe.

Catholics do not 'hate' Protestants, they disagree with Protestants on some matters of theology, liturgy and Biblical interpretation.

I'm not really sure there are that many people that "hate" the pope. Probably for those that do, it is based on ignorance and misunderstanding.

He seems a nice enough man, but a nice man is all he is. Protestants have no faith in the Pope.

What do Catholics and Protestants think of the Pope?

Most Catholics think of the Pope as their Holy Father, Christ's vicar on Earth, the heir of Saint Peter and the head of their Church. Most Protestants think of the Pope as the crowning symbol of Catholicism's apostasy from the anti-establishment teaching of Jesus. You don't ask about Orthodox Christians, most of whom consider both Protestants and Catholics to be pagans.

Why does the pope hate Barack Obama?

The pope does not hate Barack Obama. The pope is very conservative and traditional, so he does not agree with Mr. Obama on some of the social issues, but it is incorrect to say he hates the president.

How many protestants do not follow the pope?

I think that the answer would be that no protestant followers the Pope. While we may respect him, to us the only head of the Church is Christ, no man.

Who do the protestants follow?

No, this is the essential reason behind the term "Protestant", or "one who protests to the authority" which in the historical circumstances was the Roman pontiff. Protestant attitudes to the pope are extreme. Some Protestants, such as "high" Anglicans, find the pope a good man who does good things, some believe the papal office a deception while others that the pope is the Anti-Christ. None, however, consider the pope to be their spiritual leader or to possess jurisdictional authority over the Church.

What is the diffference among Catholics Orthodox and Protestants?

How did the pope punish Protestants in Italy?

The Holy Father, the Pope, is the Vicar of Christ on earth. His job is to rule Christ's Church, and to lead every man on earth to heaven. The Holy Father has no jurisdiction over protestants in Italy or anywhere else. Furthermore, he is here to show Christ's love for His people, not to punish people.

How is the Protestant religion different from the Catholic religion?

Protestant and Catholics are not very different from each other, the biggest difference is that Protestants do not believe in Jesus as the Lord. Another difference is the lack of a Pope or head leader for the Protestants.

Why don't Baptists follow the pope?

I'm pretty sure the Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church. Even though Protestants in general don't follow him, he's still revered by (most) Christians in general.
