Why do cats sound like human babies crying when they want food?

Noises are made mainly to communicate, either to other cats or people. Each sound has a meaning, like we have words. They can demonstrate happiness, pain, discomfort, rage and sometimes just to tell other cats something.

∙ 11y agoNot all cats sound like human babies crying when they want food but, for the ones that do, if you think about it, a human baby crying puts you into immediate action to see what is wrong. It's a form of communication and really, one of the only ways a baby can communicate. A cat crying in the same manner is also a form of communication and it also tends to get you moving to see what is wrong. Whether or not the cat is deliberately trying to sound like a crying baby is debatable but the cat is simply communicating to you in one of the main ways that it can.

∙ 13y agoIt could be a call of distress or pain. But the main reason may be because it is a tom (male). If so, it is most likely just a mating call.
