For cats grooming can be a communal activity, your cat is licking your head because it thinks you need to be cleaned or it wants to express companionship. So long as it does not lick your head excessively this is a normal activity, when you cat licks your head try picking it up and putting it in your lap, it probably wants a little attention.
On rare occasion cats will use grooming as a prelude to a fight, in this case your cat is trying to assert its dominance. If your cat acts aggressively when you try to stop it from licking your head, stand up and make sure your eyes are at a greater height then the cat's eyes. Set yourself into a firm posture and give the cat a stern look, this should turn its attitude around. If not further socialization and training may be needed for your cat.

∙ 15y agoPart of why cats lick so much can be attributed to the way they display contentment and affection. However, a far more likely reason is that, because our skin exudes sweat and salt, the cat is actually licking because it enjoys the taste of the salt on our skin.
