Could be that there's a nutritional deficiency and the animal is trying to reabsorb the nutrients that are in it's waste. Some animals eat their faeces because of this, among other reasons.
Male cats have sensors in their mouths which pick up the chemical signals that indicate that a female is in oestrus, so that's one reason why a male cat might drink the urine of females.
It's probably harmless, not counting that the kidneys will probably become overworked having to refilter concentrated waste products and salts again. Take to a vet to be sure.

∙ 12y agoOnly young kittens that are not fully weaned should drink milk. Kittens and cats, given the chance, would certainly drink any milk, possibly due to the fat content (cats are sensitive to fat in foods as a small amount of fat provides them with nutrients). However, many cats are lactose intolerant, meaning they cannot digest it properly so can get diarrhoea from ingesting it. Cow's milk has lactose in. Goats milk, or specially formulated cat milk do not have lactose in so are perfectly safe to be given as an occasional treat.

∙ 10y agoCats do not want to drink urine from the toilet. But their instincts drive them to sources of running water. If they cannot find good sources, they will accept bad ones.
We can help our cat drink more water by cleaning and refilling their water bowls often, and letting them know we are doing so. We use ceramic or glass bowls, not plastic ones which can make the water smell "funny." We keep their water away from crumbs and dust and dirt on the floor. Ideally, we get them a pet fountain and let them enjoy clean, fresh, water the way nature intended them to drink.
It might seem like extra money. But even a fancy ceramic one costs the same as ONE vet visit when our cat gets a Urinary Tract Infection. Think of it as pet insurance!
