Why does a dog pant?

If the panting is more than normal, the dog should be brought to a Vet. Panting is normal in all dogs, because it is the only way for them to cool down. The evaporation of their saliva on their tongues is the way it happens. Dogs may be panting more in this warm weather. Make sure that water is available to the dog.

To add more info, My dog was lying on the floor panting and his eyes were squinting and he got up when I clapped but laid down again after I left. He hasn't been doing extreme exercise, it just started. What should I do? He is a 5 year old male Yellow Lab/ Siberian Husky.

A dog pants because it is hot or because it it very stressed or worried. A dog may be afraid of loud noises so it may start to pant though it may not be hot. Don't worry try to calm your dog down or simply give it some water if it is hot. Hope this helps!

There are many reasons why your dog is panting at night.
