Dogs tremble and shake because they are scared, cold, excited or have a medical condition that is either chronic, viral or they have ingested certain types of poison. Chronic conditions include epilepsy or the onset of muscle weakness or failure which usually accompanies old age. Viral infections such as kennel cough or parvo will also cause trembling, as will the ingesting of boric acid, commonly used as rat poison. Shaking is common in some breeds of dog, like toy Chihuahuas, but severe trembling that goes on for any prolonged period, longer than ten minutes, usually is an indication that something is seriously wrong with the dog and he/she should be watched closely and, most likely, taken to the emergency room. Dogs, like people, go into shock as they are approaching death and the shaking is oftentimes a physical manifestation of this shock.
Usually if a dog is barking in their sleep, or moving, like running in place.. they are dreaming about chasing something. Or a stranger, and they are barking at it..personally my dog barks, in a way that is hard to explain..its more of like a bop.. anyway. that's my conclusion.
The dog is dreaming. like how some people talk in their sleep. dogs howl in their sleep because they have something in their dream that has captured their attention as it would have in real life.
They could be having nightmares or seizures. The way to figure out if it was a seizure is to check his eyes, if one pupil is smaller than the other, then it could be a seizure. You can also try using a dim flashlight, shine it lightly in your dogs eye, move it from side to side, if the pupil does not follow then it could also be a seizure.
They are always thinking of a new dance move.
For the same reason people talk when they sleep. DREAMING!
