We're assuming you set the alarm, and then it goes off for no reason. If your system uses magnetic switches on windows and doors, you may want to check the magnetic switches to make sure they are both properly closed, and functioning properly. As windows age, they may not close fully, and thus not always bring the two parts of the switch close enough together to register that the window (or door) is closed. You may also want to check that nothing is accidentally setting off any motion detectors you have. An overhead fan may cause a plant to move, or a cat may wander through -- any number of things can set off motion detectors.

∙ 12y agoWhen a smoke alarm just keeps going off for no reason, it is an indication that the battery is going dead in some older models. Also, you might want to see if it is also a carbon monoxide detector as well, because that would lead to a more serious issue.

∙ 9y agoYour house alarm may keep going off if it has a defect. Check to make sure there are no real threats to cause the alarm to go off and then have it tested to see if it is faulty.
