Another theme was that a "curse" was placed on the person before his death, that might somehow be lifted or modified (like supernatural "curses" on living people). --- It is because they "weren't supposed to die" so they come back and see the world. (it would be fun to go through walls and stuff like a ghost, but not fun to die.) ---
