Goldfish change their colouration as they mature. Don't be surprised or concerned.

Yes its colours will return if you follow the the basic rules of sucessfull fishkeeping which are :- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. (A goldfish grows to 10 inches so it needs at least 10 gals of water) :- Every tank needs a permanently running 'cycled' filter. :- Every tank needs at least 50% of its water replaced every week. Keep to the above rules and your fish stand a chance of surviving reasonably well. Fail in any of the above and I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick and will live a shortened lifespan.
If goldfish are kept in dim light or in a body running water such as a stream they will loose there color. They remain gold when kept in a pond or in a bowl with adequate illumination.
