Best Answer

Hares box during mating season (spring) in two different circumstances:

  • It is sometimes male against male, with the winner "winning" the female.
  • Other times it is a male trying to mate with a female and if the female isn't ready she will box with the male to let him know she isn't interested. (Obviously the male will box back to try and win her over.)
