Why do horses poop in their water?

Back when I was a kid we owned a few horses and they'd do this a lot. When I asked the same question, I was told that it was for a few reasons, including:

  • It helps keep their hooves healthy
  • They might have a stick or some gunk in their hoof that they want to get rid of
  • The dirt under the ground is cooler.
  • They're just plain bored and up to mischeif!

there really is no answer for that, it could be just by complete accident. If the horse is in a stall it could be because he doesnt want to do it any other corner.

It cools them off and gives them a protection from flies and other bugs. (plus they know it bugs you!)
