If it is deep pain (inside the skull), it could be a migraine. If it can be relieved with a recommended dose of over-the-counter medicine, it probably is not a migraine, and should be discussed with your doctor if it persists.

If it is shallow or just under the skin, it usually ends up being muscular - a pulled muscle, muscle spasms, a "crick in the neck", or having slept in an awkward position. Or just plain stress. Get a massage and find some exercises to improve circulation and muscle tone.

Generally one sided headache pain is migraine. However, you may be suffering from temporal arteritis or even tension headache. Best bet is to see a neurologist and get diagnosed properly as soon as possible.
