A substance called Bradykinin is released from blood vessels and the pain receptors (the same ones that hurt if you push on your muscle) become sensitive to this and produce pain.

Muscles get sore after a workout because they have been stretched to their limits.

Sometimes you get sore because the muscle is physically stretched too far and needs to heal. Then the muscle will be sore until it has healed itself, and it is advisable not to use that muscle extensively until the soreness is gone.

Sometimes you get sore because the cells in the muscles do not have enough oxygen. When there is no oxygen, cells cannot finish cellular respiration, which produces energy. Instead, muscle cells without oxygen go through a process that does not need oxygen: Fermentation. In fermentation, cells produce lactic acid. The soreness will last until your body gets rid of the lactic acid.

Your muscles are sore after intense workouts because as you lift weights or perform other anaerobic exercises your muscles will have microtears from the prolonged stress of the exercise and breakdown of the muscle. With proper rest, nutrition (protein, carbs) and recovery your muscles will repair and will become stronger and with the right amounts of nutrional support they will grow larger.

Because you are using them in ways that they do not normal get used. Try to warm up before exercise and coll down arfter. This will prevent any pain in the muscles and reduce the risk of injury The pain can come from an injury, which hurts immediately, or from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which is caused by a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles a day or so after strenuous exercise. Injuries should be treated with first aid or by a doctor. DOMS is your body's normal reaction to muscle stress and results in your muscles getting bigger and stronger. DOMS can be treated with massage or a whirlpool to increase circulation.

When you work out, your muscles are getting stretched out. As they stretch out, they get microscopic tears in them(OMG!!!) :O But don't worry, that's a good thing. these tears cause soreness.

if you want to get rid of soreness, eat plenty of protein. protein will fill in the tears and repair muscle. this will make your muscle bigger and stronger.

many people want to build muscle so they work out. they don't realize that ONLY working out will only rip their muscles and tear them up. you HAVE to eat protein food to repair and strengthen them.

Tears in the muscles will create some soreness, other reason are lactic acid build up in them, this can cause cramping and soreness hours after exercising - Cold shower followed by a hot one should help relieve some of this. Massaging and warmth on the muscles will help them relax, allowing the lactic acid to dissipate and the muscles to loosen up.

When the body experiences unexpected or unaccustomed exercise it goes into a protective mode. The effect of the protection is to conserve or "lock up" available electrolytes.

Muscle nerves need millions of ions from electrolytes each second to control the muscles. When the electrolytes are "locked up" there are insufficient ions for all of the nerves. Part of the muscle is under control and moving but other parts are not. This results in muscle micro tears, causing pain, and the production of lactic acid.

The answer is to take an electrolyte balancing product such as AgilityPlus before exercise so that all of the body electrolytes are available for use. This puts to an end the myth of "no gain without pain".

The same problem of muscle soreness is well known in horses and known as "tying up". This is also corrected by electrolyte balancing.

Yes.

I think it is a sign that you worked hard, but you want to stretch typically to reduce the pain.

What do you do for sore arm?

Continuing to work those sore muscles is what you shouldn't do. By continuing to workout, you put too much pressure on the muscles and instead of being strengthen, you tire them and they will rip therefore you'll have to see a doctor and you can't exercise for 1-2 months. And when your muscles are sore, give them days of rest until they aren't sore anymore, eating food will determine the energy for the sore muscles, and stretch them to make the pain go away.

What exercise can a twelve year old girl do to build stronger muscles but not get sore?

If you not sore after a workout, your not going to gain muscle. When you lift, what you are doing is making tiny rips in your muscle, your body recovers by building new muscle to avoid it again. So if your muscles arent sore, your not going to gain any muscle.

Why are you sore after you exercise?

Well, you are sore after excercise because your muscles are still getting used to all the hard work. About two weeks ago, I did ten sit-ups. Just ten. And the next day, my abs and stomach muscles hurt so bad, I couldn't bend over or even laugh because I hadn't done sit-ups for a long time. Yesterday, I did fifteen sit-ups, and my abs didn't even hurt because I was used to the exercise.
