Why do narcissists who are known to lack empathy demonstrate so much love to their obedient dogs that put up with their nonsense?

Dogs are noted for being loyal and take a person as they are, where humans look for flaws. Also the dog is obedient and because you are human you're not putting up with his bull, so he gives the dog more attention. Keep the dog and get rid of him!
ANSWERI'm not an expert, but I've noticed on this site and from personal experience that Narcissists require total control. Hence, the lies, the fantastic manipulations, the secret lives, the compartmentalized way of handling people and the absolutely calloused way they have no regard for anyone except themselves. An obediant pet offers the perfect subject. The narcissist can control a pet. The pet depend on them for everything. They can ABUSE the pet, and the creature can't report it. And they can always feel superior to the animal. Also, if the animal is in the way, it can be kenneled, sold, given away, or locked up. Perhaps this is the ideal situation for a Narcissist's "relationship". If you're dealing with one of these people, you would be well advised to run, keep running, and don't look back.

Although Ns have a lot of the same characteristics remember they are still in dividuals like u and me. Ns can get VERY attached to animals , dogs because they serve as a source of constant supply especially if the N is between breakups and doesn't have a person. My ex had a small dog she took everywhere with her I mean everywhere. So some Ns get attached to pets to keep from being lonely.
