Apart from the several mystical connections, Stonehenge was a huge engineering achievement. Stones weighing many tons were moved a dozen miles or more, then made to stand upright; other stones, smaller, but still weighing several tons, were brought from the far end of Wales, well over a hundred miles by whatever route. All that was achieved over 3,000 years ago, without the help of modern mechanical equipments. Also recent research has given insight into its design, which was not 'astronomical' but architectural - and involved empirical geometry and mathematics.

They like to pretend primitive people were too stupid to measure the sun's shadow and pile up rocks all by themselves. That makes the UFO nuts believe they are much more intelligent than those primitives.
