Why do people do the things they do? We are all part of a philosphical system- our universal masochist-sadist impulses. The whole armamentarium is discoverable: projection, identification, sublimation, the unconscious, the censor, ambivalence, the dream-work, the psychoses, the sense of guilt, suppression, paranoia, symbolization and subsitution are all reasons why we do the things we do. We are all capable of terrible things. It's the way we rationalize, react and use ourselves in certain situations. We are all potential murderers, alcoholics, rapists, creatures of sin. Men and woman who want to be, to feel their individuality, but who do not have the trick of it. Most of them succumb and live out their lives in a kind of twilight stupor. Others may turn to crime or revolution, unless society is wise enough to point out to them other and better ways in which they can achieve self-expression.
